My name is Lemma McLean Brown, MS, RDN, (picture below and left above) co-blogger of Sisters with Good Taste and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. I hold a Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition and I am a food and wellness enthusiast. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over ten years ago and I use my disease to motivate myself to be healthy and I try to use my experiences to motivate others. I am a lover of desserts and I believe that all foods have a place in moderation. My interests include: disease prevention and management, outdoor physical activity, and getting creative in the kitchen. I advocate that healthy food can taste good and cooking can be a fun and rewarding task. I hope to motivate others to stay healthy or get healthy. Being well is the key to living a long, happy, and fulfilling life.
My healthy food and nutrition roots come from my family. Both of our parents worked full-time while we were growing up, but we always enjoyed healthy, home cooked meals together. Our parents encouraged healthy living by example growing up and we enjoyed outdoor activities together, such as hiking and biking. Since I have grown up with healthy traditions, I have experienced their reward first hand. I hope to share my knowledge and experiences with you!
My name is Sarah McLean Siddons (picture below and right above), co-blogger of Sisters with Good Taste, and Lemma’s twin sister! I hold a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and I am a self-proclaimed “foodie.” My social media feeds are pretty much devoted to my local food scene, and I am always planning my next meal. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) over ten years ago, so I frequently have to make diet decisions based on an unpredictable and unruly gut. I live in Silver Spring, Maryland with my husband, but I started my professional career providing communications support to nonprofits and foundations while living and working in Washington, D.C. I love trying new and unique restaurants in the DMV, as well as being creative in the kitchen – I am always looking to try out new and healthier renditions of recipes. On the weekends, I work for a local fermented foods vendor at farmers markets in Maryland and D.C., hoping to bestow local, healthier food products to my community.
Growing up in West Virginia, Lemma and I were always in the kitchen helping our parents and grandfathers cook. Rooted in Italian and German cuisine, we frequently enjoyed our Grandpa Joe’s fresh, crusty Italian bread, any and all pasta, and our Dedo’s sauerkraut. My hope in contributing to this blog is to encourage others to step outside of their comfort zone and try new recipes or restaurants, and most importantly, enjoy the overall experience, whether that’s helping to cook traditional recipes with loved ones, or sharing new food experiences!
